An independent read on home movie nights

About Us

The Masthead

A small desk, a long-held fondness for rented tapes, and a belief that ordinary evenings deserve careful writing.

Scoopwatflicknestl began as a conversation between friends about why some film nights are remembered for years and others vanish by morning. The answer, we came to believe, had little to do with the films themselves and much to do with the room, the food, the company and the way the choice was made. This publication is our attempt to write about those things with the seriousness usually reserved for the films.

We publish in editions, like a weekend supplement. Each edition is a sequence of chapters meant to be read in order, over a cup of tea or two, rather than skimmed for tips.

How We Work

  • Independent

We are not affiliated with any film studio, streaming platform, retailer or manufacturer. We accept no sponsorship, gifts or affiliate commissions.

  • Cited

Every chapter closes with numbered sources: books, standards and institutional records a reader can check for themselves.

  • Corrected

When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction at the foot of the chapter, with the date.

  • Unhurried

We would rather publish one careful edition than many hasty ones. There are no pop-up offers here and no countdown clocks.

We write about ordinary evenings with the seriousness usually reserved for the films.
